Planning of Modular Construction

Nowadays, one of the existing answer not only for achieving optimum use of resources-time but also, for improving the quality and safety of a construction project is industrialization. Industrialization includes modular construction approach and prefabricated approach, which aims to reach the optimum use of resources-time by applying novel construction technologies. In modular system, any structure, architecture or MEP part is divided into distinct standard units, called module. Each of these modules are fabricated in an assembly yard inside or outside of construction site, completely and then are installed in the project after transporting to the construction site.
A well-defined planning for a modular project improves the three vertex of project successfulness triangle, which are quality, cost and time. In this regard, the application of novel management and planning tools in construction industry such as simulation and management information systems can play an effective role and facilitate the process of planning. Some impressive factors that affect the planning of modular projects are:
1) Dimensions of modules that should meet the constraint of transportation limitation.
2) Capacity of transportation trucks.
3) Various conditions of access paths to the construction site.
4) Administrative rules of transportation in project location.
